“You got your cards in my RPG!” “Well you got your RPG in my cards!” “Mmm, they are better together!”
This union of cards and roleplaying games has been on the horizon for some time and now it is here. Untold the Game by The Wandering Men has arrived and is creating quite a stir. The concept reminds me of CCG’s such as Magic the Gathering where the core rules are very simple and straight forward requiring only a light rulebook whereas each card has its particular “function” printed on it. The great thing about this is that it eliminates the need for keeping track of numerous rule books, manuals, etc. at the table. This should make the learning curve very small and also allow for much speedier gameplay.
I just got my shipment in the mail yesterday and I am stoked. I ordered the starter core set as well as the adventure “Bad Beginnings Alpha” card deck. The starter set contains all of the cards needs for a GM and 6 players to get a game going including character cards, minions, powers, aspects, banes, and more. This is a huge set with 189 cards included plus a d20, quick start instructions, and a fold-out poster primer. The adventure deck adds another 35 cards to go with the free adventure pdf download on their site.
Other decks available offer more minions, powers, banes, and more. There is plenty of variety available in these decks to expand your game and they are easily incorporated without having to learn a bunch of new rules. The whole product line is very user friendly and has a plug-n-play feel. You can have the cards you want and not use the ones you don’t without missing anything.
I will do a more in depth review and package video soon, but until then head over to the Untold website and take a look around. In honor of their 1 year anniversary you can get 10% off of your entire order through the end of April by using coupon code 1YEAR so now might be a good time to pick up a starter core set yourself to try it out.
